Rainy Day Meal (yak meat)

This is my idea of what students love to eat- home food on a rainy day!!
My rainy day meal has 5 elements:
  • Rice
  • 1 Egg  ( I like sunny side up crisped on the edges. )
  • Sliced cucumber.
  • Kimchi Salad (for some zing and spice.)
  • Yaksha Chinzey. ( yak meat stir fried with celery)

The first 3 elements shouldn't be a problem for anyone interested enough to read recipes.
4th element: Kimchi recipe is available at http://yangloo89.blogspot.in/2014/05/kimchi.html
The 5th: Yaksha Chinzey
I am using Yaksha as mother was kind enough to send me some. Yaksha or Yak meat is very rich and fatty and has a distinct flavour. It is mostly consumed by people living in cold regions where the animal is herded, in broths and noodle soups or just plain raw (not a myth.)
BUT this is not an easily available meat so Good News- This tastes amazing with Bacon or even a lean cut of beef (for weight watchers)
Students living in cities can use Bacon as it is easily available and cooks instantly like yak meat !!

what will you require?
  • meat (yak or beef or bacon)
  • celery stalks (cleaned and cut as shown in the picture).
  • 1 onion.
  • 1 tomato.
  • some green chilly.
  • 1 tbsp mustard oil (or refined oil)
  • salt and haldi/turmeric.

Sweat the onion and green chillies in a pan as shown below on medium heat. Add a pinch of salt and haldi/turmeric powder.

Once they start browning, add the tomato and give it a good toss.
Once the tomato is half cooked and limp, add in your meat and toss again.
Let the food sizzle fry on medium heat for a 5 minutes and adjust salt.
Once you all your meat has caramelized ( a good brown colour, hear a sharp sizzling sound and  you can see no more water in the pan), throw in you celery.
Give it a good toss and put a lid on for 4 minutes on a medium heat.

Serve and enjoy on a rainy day.
Look into your fridge and pantry and be creative. Don't let anything go to waste. You can make your meal interesting if you give it a try.
Remember to cook from your heart!!
